2008 Stolpman Horizontal Collection

2008 Vintage The extremes of 2008 are written across the wines. Spring frost burnt our newly budded crop for the first time in the vineyards’ history. The April cold snap reduced the crop load dramatically, meaning each vine would concentrate its energy on only a few clusters. Then in mid-June, unprecedented weather stuck again in the form of an early heat wave. Temperatures soared to Read More →

La Cuadrilla + Limestone

T H E  L A B E L by Kari Crist, the label’s creator & creative director of Stolpman Vineyards Champagne, Loire, Chablis, Ballard Canyon… What do these guys have in common? Limestone. The calcium rich soil that sky rockets ordinary Vitis Vinifera into rock star status. Limestone. The soil that directed Tom Stolpman to his family’s legacy on Ballard Canyon. Limestone. A Perfect Vintage finished before the Rain‏

Mother Nature seemed to send us a signal on Wednesday, October 8th. For over a week meteorologists forecasted rain, giving us just enough time to pick all of our red grapes off of the vine. We took it right up to the wire, finishing just before dawn on Wednesday morning. Sunrise revealed high, dark clouds, and the morning brought with it blustery winds off of Read More →

2013 Vintage Forecast: The Fight is On

Barring freak weather patterns this fall, the dry winter will be the defining factor of Stolpman Vineyards’ 2013 vintage. The weather station on the Vineyard measured only 6.5 inches of rain. This number was not unusual throughout the Central Coast. Conditions are so dry, there have already been a few fires in the Santa Ynez Valley. The most significant, the White Fire, burned 1800 acres Read More →

Just another Summer Afternoon dominated by Viognier & Butter..

It doesn’t take much to convince the back office folk here at Stolpman to take an afternoon off to enjoy some good summer eats paired with our 2010 Viognier…  & when Brian Evans, our resident wine snob & foodie, offered to cook for us, it was a no-brainer to share the fun  (& the recipes!) The Hosts:  Carol (our direct sales manager) & Alan Blakeboro.  Santa Ynez.  Their lovely house was Read More →

Check out what’s New @ the Vineyard!

The springtime provides a great opportunity to check out all of our viticultural experimentation as the bushy canopy has yet to block out all the new detailed changes La Cuadrilla has been busy implementing. Kari and I spent an afternoon hiking the hills of the vineyard, but this photo-blog shows off Ruben’s brain, not just the vineyard’s beauty!  A huge factor in why Stolpman’s wines Read More →

Feast in the Field 2012 – A Photo Blog

We came up with the great idea of bringing Stolpman’s Polyculture to our customers last year.  Not only are we lucky enough to live in the Santa Ynez Valley with fresh, local, organic groceries constantly available, but when we go out to dine we enjoy the same “farm to table” local specialties at restaurants like Full of Life Flatbread.   We met with Ruben and figured Read More →

Who Knew Bean-Town Could be a Leading Stolpman Market?!

In late 2010 I received one of the coolest emails ever from a guy named Brian Connor – here’s an excerpt – Hi Peter, First of all, let me explain that I had never heard of Stolpman Vineyards prior to my trip to Los Olivos last week and a good friend in L.A. told me I absolutely had to check you guys out. Having tasted Read More →

Let the Ballard Canyon ROAST Begin!

I started throwing little parties out under the Oak tree the year after I graduated Georgetown. I wanted to bring my East Coast friends out for a reunion and share with them the magic of the Vineyard. Everyone was blown away and I realized how much I enjoy showing people the natural beauty of Ballard Canyon. As I’ve gotten older and the vineyard has evolved Read More →

‘Ghetto Fab’ Release Party – A Photo Recap

We set off this year’s Vintners’ Weekend in style – by transforming our entire crushpad at our Lompoc Winery to host our first ever ‘Ghetto Fabulous’  pick up party .  Each of our awesome new 2010’s were on hand, the food, by our very own Brian Evans, was outstanding & as always – Uncle Bo and his band jammed out in the corner.  But – enough talkin’ – enjoy our very first photo Read More →
