Clean & Pure Orange Wine
In 2020 we sought to add a clean, pure Orange wine to our So Fresh brand via this line’s trademark, low extraction, carbonic fermentation technique.   We realized the ideal Orange wine needed three elements and we have sought out three different varietals for each.   Pinot Gris gives color, and rich, thick texture.  Early picked Chardonnay gives balancing acid and zesty citrus.  Finally, Gewürztraminer gives us exotic tropical fruit and the lion’s share of the wafting perfume on the nose.  
We left the 2024 in barrel 6 months longer than we have in previous vintages to allow these three characteristics to integrate together into one pure flow from the nose through the mouth.
Healthy late winter and early spring rain pushed back bud-break by a few weeks and enabled all mature own rooted blocks to be dry-farmed for a second year in a row.  Summer weather remained moderate, and September warmed up a bit to ripen all three orange wine varietals throughout the month.
Booming exotic tropical fruit on the nose.  Ruby red grapefruit into palm trees, pineapple, and coconuts.  Richness upfront and then fleshy on the midpalate finishing with a deeper, redder core.  All the while sweet juicy citrus and ripe stone fruit provide pure, seamless pleasure.  A serious backbone frames the perfume taking on wet gravel leading to fine chalky tannin and toast.  A food-friendly dryness remains after swallowing, inviting any type of lighter, flavorful fare, especially spice!
